Basketball Betting — Blazers and Clippers Jockey For Position as They Meet in L.A.

Now that Chris Paul is back in the lineup, the Los Angeles Clippers like to think the sky is the limit, and who can blame them, after the effort they put in on Sunday night against the Philadelphia 76ers? On Wednesday night the Clippers get back to work, as they play host to the Portland Trail Blazers in basketball betting action that will tip off at 10:35 PM Eastern time at the Staples Center. Paul, who came back from a shoulder injury on Sunday, is on track to play in this weekend’s All-Star game, and he registered 23 minutes of action against Philadelphia. It wound up being no more than a glorified workout for the Clippers, who impressed BetAnySports customers with a savage beating of the Sixers. They were up 46-15 after just one quarter of play, and it only got worse from there. The final was 123-78, and it gave everybody on the roster a good laugh and a little bit of rest as well.

NBA bettors who are watching the playoff race in the Western Conference are seeing something that, if it was a horse race, would be almost too close to call. Thankfully, everybody has to play 81 games, so the whole thing will get sorted out in the end. But suffice it to say that right now, between the Clippers, Portland and the Houston Rockets, any of those teams could find themselves in third, fourth or fifth position in the West on any given day. The Clippers will tighten things up even more if they win on Wednesday night, because they will be one game ahead of the Blazers in the win column and just one game behind them in the loss column.

In the basketball betting odds that have been placed on this game by the people at BetAnySports, the Clippers are laying quite a few points here:

One of the reasons that people following pro hoops betting may not have a lot of faith in the Blazers in this particular game is the fact that they had to battle with the Oklahoma City Thunder just last night, and then got on a plane and traveled down the coast. Portland’s shooting left something to be desired on Tuesday night, as they hit 37.6% as a team. The big disappointment had to be LaMarcus Aldridge, who had been so good in the previous three encounters between those two squads (30.7 points per game), but made only five of his 22 shots. That was indeed the critical factor in the game, as Portland was not able to enforce its inside presence.

These teams went at it tooth-and-nail on December 26 in Portland. In that game, Blake Griffin had 35 points, with Paul adding 34 and dishing out sixteen assists. However, Aldridge helped to overcome that with 32 points of his own as the Blazers emerged victorious in overtime by the score of 116-112, although they did not cover as a 4.5-point favorite in the basketball betting lines. Portland has now lost seven of its last 12 games, so it is very important to them from a psychological standpoint that they get on a more positive track as they head to the All-Star break.
