Basketball Betting Lines – Grizzlies Look to Get By Lakers as They Eye Suns

Zach Randolph MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES 2013
The Memphis Grizzlies have to be very focused on Sunday night when they engage in basketball betting action against the Los Angeles Lakers beginning at 9:35 PM ET at the Staples Center. You see, Memphis is a half-game ahead of the Phoenix Suns, and they have a date with the Suns on Monday night. So they have to be able to focus on this game against one of the NBA’s worst teams, because a defeat will put Phoenix in a position where it can gain an advantage with a victory over Memphis tomorrow night.

The Grizzlies are team that has come through nicely in the clutch lately, as they defended the home-court with a 107-102 victory over the Miami Heat earlier in the week. Going on the road has been a bit of a problem for them, however, as they have lost four of their last five when traveling. The Lakers are missing a number of players once again as they move into these final games. It is kind of a dicey situation for them as well, because after having set the franchise record for most losses in a season, and he victories on their part will take them out of their guarantee of at least a top-four choice in the next NBA Draft.

There might be lame ducks all around in Los Angeles, including coach Mike D’Antoni, who has been listening to rumors about a number of other coaches coming in to take over the team, including John Calipari of the University of Kentucky.

In the basketball betting lines that have been posted at Get That Bet, the Grizzlies are laying a lot of points on the road:

Basketball Betting Lines Courtesy Of Get That Bet USA Sportsbook

Memphis Grizzlies -12
Los Angeles Lakers +12

Over 209 points -110

Under 209 points -110

Pau Gasol is out for the Lakers, which means there will not be an encounter with his brother Marc, who missed considerable time earlier in the season but has helped spearhead the Grizzlies’ drive toward a playoff spot. Generally the Grizzlies are recognized for their defense, but they have been shooting very well of late, hitting 54% of their shots in the last two games.

Interestingly enough, in winning two out of three games against the Lakers this season, the total margin in these three contests has been 12 points, so there hasn’t been a lot of difference between these squads when they have occupied the same floor.

Get That Bet customers were treated to some colorful predictions on the part of the Lakers’ Nick Young, who promised to score 60 points in this game, in response to Corey Brewer’s 51 for the Minnesota Timberwolves against Houston on Friday. However, when he realized who the opponent was, and that he might be hounded by Tony Allen, who is a member of the All-Defensive team, Young dialed himself down on that “guarantee.” But it gives you an idea about what direction the Lakers are thinking these days.

Memphis is 1-7-1 against the basketball betting lines over its last nine games, so clearly they are a team that one would have to be careful with. Perhaps it might be industrious to gravitate toward the total, and the Lakers have played five of their last seven games under the total.

Will Memphis’ first-year head coach, Dave Joerger, ration some of his starters’ minutes with the idea of keeping them relatively fresh going into the Monday clash with Phoenix? That is another consideration here.
