NBA Weekly Betting Report – Jan. 21

NBA Weekly Betting Report - Jan. 21

The NBA regular season has just about reached the halfway point of its 82-game schedule making it the perfect time to take a closer look at 5Dimes’ futures odds to win both the Eastern and Western Conference titles as well as this season’s NBA Championship.

Before the season got underway, the Cleveland Cavaliers with LeBron James back in the fold were the odds-on favorite to win the East and heavy favorites to win a NBA title, but things have not gone according to plan. Through this past Tuesday’s action, they were in fifth-place in the conference with a straight-up record of 22-20. Bettors are still expecting that second half surge with Cleveland listed as a +245 favorite to win the East, but it is now a +660 third-favorite to win it all.

The Atlanta Hawks recent surge to the top of the standings in the East with a SU record of 34-8 has hardly gone unnoticed by the betting public as they are now listed at +265 betting odds to win the conference, which are the third-best on 5Dimes’ board. The Hawks’ current odds to go on and win the title now stand at +700.

The Chicago Bulls are still +250 second-favorites to win the East and +675 fourth-favorites to win it all, but the value in these odds continues to drain with a 27-16 SU record that has the team 7.5 games off the pace in the standings. The team at the top of the list to win the West is the Golden State Warriors at +265. Their betting odds to win a championship now stand at +400, which are also the best among all 30 NBA teams. The Warriors bolted out of the gate this season by winning 21 of their first 23 games and they have kept it going with a 9-1 run in their last 10 outings to improve to 33-6 on the year.

The NBA betting public has not given up on the defending champion San Antonio Spurs’ chances to repeat despite the fact that they are in seventh-place in the West at 27-16. They have the second-best odds to still win the conference at +350 and their +535 betting odds to win another title are also the second-best on 5Dimes’ board. Top
